I accidentally deleted my comment, let's hope I remember everything I had to say. You do a good job of using angle and lighting to create the dynamic and interesting images this assignment was all about. The fourth image is really clever and the angle really adds to it, but I don't think I would have noticed what was actually in the book if you hadn't said something in your caption. But maybe that adds to it and/or says something about my observation skills. The fifth image is very well done because of the reflection on the smooth surface and really accomplishes the different range of photographs we were shooting for (no pun intended). :) Nice work!
Your first two images remind me of the Barbara Probst images that we viewed in class, which is exactly what this assignment was all about. Yours should be in a gallery too! I think the shadow of the apple in the fifth image is what makes it interesting … maybe tighter cropping would have improved the shot slightly to bring the focus on to the shadow more? It’s a subjective suggestion.
Your use of lighting in the second image counters the lighting in the fifth images, but in a beautiful way. The second photograph has a nice, even exposure, and it is cheerful in a way. This is kind of ironic, as the book is opened to a page displaying the "bad apple." On the other hand, the fifth image has a much more eerie quality. The hint of backlighting and the shadow are captivating. I would have suggested cropping more of the right side, just because there is small distraction in the bottom right corner. Overall, I think these are two of your strongest images.
I enjoyed all the different angles you photographed from and I think the lighting is really interesting. I think the last image is one of my favorite's because of the reflection and how clear it is
I like your placement in every picture. In the first two pictures I was wondering if the focus was the girl or the apple. I like that it wasn't just here is an apple. The hand holding the apple was another example of doing a good job not focusing on the apple and it helped me because after the first few images I was looking for an apple. It was fun thinking of where the apple would be in the next photo and trying to find it. You did a great job of shooting a boring apple and making it alive with emotion.
